After a lot of confusion and doubts, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has finally confirmed that the much-awaited tournament will take place this year.
The Asia Cup was in danger of being postponed after Pakistan threatened to boycott it over the venue issue. But with the ACC accepting the hybrid model, Pakistan have given the tournament the green light. As a result of the hybrid model, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will co-host the continental championship this year.
The ACC has confirmed that Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to take place from 31st August to 17th September 2023. A total of 13 matches will be played in the competition. Pakistan will host four matches while the remaining nine matches will be played in Sri Lanka.
Six teams will be participating in Asia Cup 2023 - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal. Nepal will be making their debut in the Asia Cup this year. The teams have been divided into two groups of three teams each. India, Pakistan and Nepal are in Group A while reigning champions Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in Group B. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then face off in the final.
