Asia Cup 2023: Full Asia Cup Schedule Announced: The 16th edition of the Asia Cup 2023 is not very far away. The much-awaited competition will get underway on August 31, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced.
Ending all the speculation surrounding the fate of Asia Cup 2023, the ACC confirmed that the tournament will be played from August 31st to September 17th. With the ACC also accepting Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) hybrid model, the tournament will now be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Six teams will be participating in Asia Cup 2023 and a total of 13 ODI matches will be played. Four of the 13 games will be played in Pakistan while the remaining nine including the final will take place in Sri Lanka. Pakistan will be hosting the Asia Cup matches for the first time since 2008 while Sri Lanka have not hosted the tournament since 2010.
Asia Cup 2023: Asia Cup history:
Asia Cup is the only continental championship in cricket. The first edition of the competition was played in 1984 in the United Arab Emirates with India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka as the participants. India won the tournament after beating both Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Since then, 15 editions of the competitions have been played so far. While it was initially started as an ODI tournament, it is now played in the T20I format too depending on the upcoming ICC event. The first T20I edition was played in 2016. India won the inaugural T20I edition too. India are also the most successful side in the history of Asia Cup, having won it seven times followed by Sri Lanka and Pakistan who have won it six and two times respectively.
Asia Cup 2023: Team list:
Six teams will be participating in Asia Cup 2023. The teams are - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Afghanistan. Nepal will be making their debut in the Asia Cup this year. The format of the tournament will be similar to the last two editions.
The six teams have been divided into two groups with three teams each. India, Pakistan and Nepal are in Group A while defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have been clubbed together in Group B. The top two teams from each group will make it to the Super 4 before the top two teams play the final.
