Snubbed For West Indies T20Is, Rinku Singh Set To Make Debut For Team India In This Series

The India selectors, on Wednesday (July 5), sprung a huge surprise by leaving out Rinku Singh from India's T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against West Indies.

The Ajit Agarkar-led panel was expected to take some bold calls as many believed that the selectors would name Rinku Singh in the team after his stunning exploits in IPL. Playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, the left-handed batsman has had his best campaign in IPL as he finished the competition as one of the best batsmen.

Rinku Singh showed the world his finishing credentials and was one of the biggest positives for KKR in an otherwise yet another disappointing campaign. He became a household name after smashing five sixes on the last five balls of the match to fire KKR to a miraculous win over Gujarat Titans. But that was not the only notable knock from him in IPL 2023.

He proved his finishing credentials by constantly doing well with the bat in pressure situation. He crossed the 40-run mark seven times in 14 games while batting in the lower half of the middle order. Overall, he scored 474 runs in 14 games at a strike-rate of almost 150.

Rinku Singh to make his India debut soon:

With Team India lacking quailty finishers, it was expected that Rinku Singh would get a call-up from the selectors for the West Indies tour. The selectors, however, decided otherwise. While they gave calls to some new faces likes Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma, Rinku could not find a spot in the squad.

Well, it looks like Rinku would not have to wait long for his India debut. The highly-rated batsman is set to make his Team India debut in the coming months as he is likely to be named in India's squad for Asian Games 2023. The Asian Games will be held at Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023. The BCCI has agreed to send the men's and women's teams to the competition.

The men's team, however, will be full of fringe players as the main players will be busy preparing for the World Cup. As per reports, Shikhar Dhawan is set to lead the Indian team. And according to reports, RInku is all but assured of a place in the team for the competition. There is also a chance that he might make his debut for India before the Asian games when India tour Ireland for the T20Is right after the series against West Indies.
