CUETWhat is CUET?

CUET stands for Common University Entrance Test. It is a national-level entrance examination for undergraduate (UG) admissions to all central universities and other participating universities in India. CUET is a computer-based test (CBT) that is held once a year.

The History of CUET

The idea of a common entrance test for UG admissions in India was first proposed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2017. The UGC argued that a common entrance test would help to level the playing field for students from different backgrounds and would make the admissions process more transparent.

In 2020, the UGC announced that CUET would be introduced in 2021. However, the launch of CUET was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. CUET was finally conducted in 2022 for the first time.

The Benefits of CUET

There are a number of benefits to CUET. One benefit is that it provides a fair and transparent way for students to gain admission to UG programs in India. The exam is open to all students, regardless of their background or location. This means that students from rural areas and from marginalized communities have the same opportunity to get into top universities as students from urban areas and from privileged backgrounds.

Another benefit of CUET is that it helps to reduce the stress of the admissions process for students. In the past, students had to take a number of different entrance exams for different universities. This could be very stressful, especially for students who were applying to a number of different universities. CUET eliminates the need for students to take multiple entrance exams, which makes the admissions process much simpler and less stressful.

The Structure of CUET

CUET is a 3-hour 20-minute (200-minute) CBT with a total of 75 questions, divided into three sections:

Section I: Language (15 questions)

Section II: General Knowledge (20 questions)

Section III: Subject-specific (40 questions)

Each correct answer fetches 1 mark and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers. The maximum marks for the exam are 750.

The Syllabus for CUET

The syllabus for CUET is based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The NEP 2020 emphasizes the importance of critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. The syllabus for CUET is designed to assess these skills in students.

The Application Process for CUET

The application process for CUET is online. Candidates can apply through the NTA website. The application fee is Rs. 850 for general category candidates and Rs. 425 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
