Confirmed: Asia Cup 2023 Venue Confirmed As Pakistan Lose Hosting Rights
Asia Cup 2023 venue has been the talk of the town ever since BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that India would not visit Pakistan for the continental championship. While Pakistan were awarded the hosting rights by the Asian Cricket Council, India declined to visit the country due to security reasons.
India and Pakistan's bilateral relations are at an all time low and are unlikely to improve any time soon. The BCCI suspended all the cricketing ties in the wake of the 2008 terror attack in Mumbai. Since then, both the countries have played just one bilateral series that too way back in 2012/13 season. Since then, they have only played against each other in ICC tournaments or the Asia Cup.

Talking about the venue of Asia Cup 2023, Sri Lanka are all set to host the competition this year. The development comes after Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan joined India in rejecting Pakistan Cricket Board's hybrid model. Following India's decision of not visiting Pakistan, PCB had announced that they would conduct 3 to 4 games of the Asia Cup in their country, while the rest of the matches involving India could be held at a neutral venue.
UAE was seen as the likely option as the neutral venue. However, most of the participants have rejected the offer, citing the extreme weather conditions in the gulf country in September when Asia Cup 2023 is likely to take place.
"It is just a formality now that the Asian Cricket Council executive board members meet virtually or a proper meeting is called later this month. But the PCB is now aware that Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are not backing their hybrid model proposal for the Asia Cup," a source told PTI.
It is now just a matter of time before the Asian Cricket Council confirms Sri Lanka as the venue for Asia Cup 2023. India have reportedly made it clear that they would like Sri Lanka to host the competition and at the moment, it is tough to see any other country hosting it.

There is also a possibility that Pakistan decide against playing the Asia Cup at a neutral venue in order to protest over the decision. The report from PTI further added that the tournament would still be called Asia Cup although the broadcaster will negotiate with the ACC in absence of Pakistan.
"There is every possibility the Asia Cup might not be held this year because without Pakistan and India matches the broadcasters are not likely to offer the same amount they were offering to the ACC with Pakistan included," a source said.
As of now not much is clear about Asia Cup 2023 but if it indeed takes place this year, Sri Lanka are set to host it.
